Meilidi Moser grew up in a hyper-athletic household. Her whole world revolved around sports — until it couldn’t anymore.

Meilidi was injured in a scrimmage game against the JV team in the middle of her senior year basketball season. Meilidi, who was on track to receive multiple athletic scholarships, had to find strength within herself to not only change her perception of herself, her identity and her worldview, but to also do so with a fierce confidence and grace that many could only dream of having.

Although Meilidi is satisfied with her current life, something must be said for the hIgh amount of injures that occur in certain contact sports, such as basketball, as seen in the above graphic. One day, I hope to live in a world where kids and teens can enjoy the sports they love without being at such high risk for severe, even irreparable injury. Watch this video to learn Meilidi’s story:
